RESEARCH REPORT
Personal and Emotional Aspects
of POF: Study UPDATE

The aim of this (online!) research study is to help POF women gain an understanding of their disorder, to find the necessary tools to come to terms with their condition, and to improve their quality of life. Similiar research was conducted by this group in Milan, Italy via 1 1/2 hour in-person interviews.

We asked Dr. Ann Bises to update us on the progress of the research -- the questionnaire has now been on our site for 3 months. Here’s what she told us, "So far we have received 38 questionnaires. The salient issues are: How truly devastating this diagnosis is; How well POFers usually cope with it; How often it affects their self image in terms of feeling old. Differently from italian situations, the diagnosis is always accurate and readily made. But what stunned all of us researchers, is the crudity, the lack of empathy on the part of medical personnel incommunicating this diagnosis. This is a real issue."
