POF Profile: Lisa Branick
Lisa Branick, an Occupational Therapist was diagnosed with
POF when she was 33 years old. She has one child, Yulia, 16
years old, whom she adopted from Russia.
Lisa's life changed when she was diagnosed, and she said
it also impacted those around her. Lisa found it difficult
to discuss POF and explain it to her family and friends so
they could understand.
Lisa shared with us, "In fact, I did not tell those
closest to me for a few months because there were so many
emotions to deal with. My husband and I felt we needed time
to think, cope and try to make a plan. You all know about
the downsides of having POF. There also are ways to benefit.
For me, my life seems different because my view has changed.
More exercise, more goals, and now I am a mom to a teenager!
See you at the next conference!!"
Lisa's advice for fellow POF'ers is to get involved in a
IPOFA Support Group, and in planning the next POF conference.
Also she says that NIH research protocol was also very helpful
in giving her knowledge about her disease, and helped her
focus on long-term health issues.
