Research Project - Open to women in New Zealand
with a family history of POF
We are beginning a research project to understand the causes
of premature menopause. Our study is based on the hypotheses
that identifying and understanding the molecules involved
in the development of premature menopause will lead to a way
of treating premature menopause. We believe that we can identify
the molecules involved by studying families who have inherited
premature menopause. If our study is successful, and we identify
a gene involved in inherited premature menopause, we suspect
that the same gene may also be involved in the more common
non-family (sporadic) forms of premature menopause. We plan
to study sporadic cases to determine if the same molecules
cause them.
Your participation in our research project is absolutely
vital! We would like to hear from as many women as possible
with premature menopause - New Zealand only!
Our first aim is to identify women with a family history
of premature menopause. We would need to ask you some questions
(such as age of onset) and take a small blood sample.
Our second aim is to collect blood samples from women with
sporadic premature menopause.
If you have premature menopause, we would like to talk to
you.
